Dion Kacuri has established himself as an indispensable regular starter at Austria Lustenau, presenting FC Basel with a significant squad decision. The 22-year-old started all seven Bundesliga matches this season, playing over 600 minutes.

The loan deal with the Austrian club runs for the entire campaign. Crucially, it includes an agreed purchase option that Lustenau could activate at the season's end. For Basel, currently fourth in the Super League with 13 points, this represents a potential departure of a homegrown talent. Kacuri's contract with FCB runs until the summer of 2028.

Solid Performance Data

The defensive midfielder's numbers show his good form. He scored his first goal for Lustenau in early August against Grazer AK. With a pass accuracy of 83 percent and 38 duels won out of 59, he shows reliability. His aerial duel success rate is nearly 70 percent, unsurprising for a player standing 1.90 meters tall.

Sporting director Dieter Alge of Austria Lustenau praised the player upon his signing. "He described the midfielder as one of the bigger Swiss talents and highlighted his technique, game intelligence, and physical presence in particular," Alge said.

International Prospects

Kacuri's development is also attracting attention on the international stage. In September, he received his first call-up to the Kosovo senior national team, for whom he is eligible due to his Kosovar passport. He previously played for various Swiss youth national teams. This progression increases his sporting and potential market value.

For FC Basel, the situation is a classic talent development decision. The player made seven appearances for the first team in the previous Super League season and also gained experience in the Europa League and with the U21s. His current market value is estimated at around €600,000. The club must now weigh whether to reintegrate him after the loan or facilitate a permanent move via the option.

Basel's recent form, including a 1-3 loss to St. Gallen, highlights the need for reliable midfield options. The next challenge is an away fixture on October 11th against 11th-placed FC Vaduz. The full schedule for the second half of the season can be found on our fixtures page. Should Kacuri not return, FCB will need to adjust the squad accordingly. The current lineup and other options in defensive midfield are viewable in the squad overview.
