FC Basel began the international break with a 7-3 friendly defeat under Slavisa Jokanovic and will be without injured captain Xherdan Shaqiri for their Super League trip to Vaduz. The new manager's first match on Saturday against relegated FC Winterthur saw a 4-0 half-time deficit and finished with seven goals conceded, with Shaqiri picking up an injury in the second half.
Slavisa Jokanovic said after the match in Winterthur: "Jokanovic has a lot of work ahead of him after Saturday." The Serbian had fielded a strong starting lineup, with Shaqiri operating as captain and number ten. The team currently sits fourth in the Super League with 13 points.
The injury to the 34-year-old Shaqiri is a significant setback ahead of the matchday. The season's top scorer remains Žan Celar with six goals. In the last meeting in March, Basel lost 5-2 to the Liechtenstein club.
