Lichtsteiner responds to media criticism
FC Basel coach Stephan Lichtsteiner addressed recent media coverage in a press conference ahead of the clash against FCZ. The Italian international said the media had framed the match as «a final for me». Lichtsteiner rejected this, stating: «I can't explain that». The 39-year-old emphasized that criticism is part of his job, but he respects boundaries, even under pressure.
Focus on the game
Lichtsteiner stated he is 100% focused on the FCZ clash. The coach, who has been at Basel since 2019, noted that routine and integrity are his priorities. «I was raised with respect and integrity», he said, «and I pass that on to my children». He assured that personal pressures would not affect the team.
Clash as a milestone
The clash on Saturday (15 April) against FCZ is seen as a season highlight. Lichtsteiner stressed that the game «is no personal final grade», but a milestone for the team. The coach, who recently secured a 2:1 Champions League win against Young Boys, aims to beat FCZ in the Super League. «I try to block everything else out», he said, «because I'm only focused on the game».
