FC Basel: Early Completion of Eight Player Deals Before Season Kickoff

FC Basel is finalizing its core squad ahead of the season start after concluding deals with eight players. The club’s Sporting Director Andreas Stocker has proceeded cautiously, a rarity in recent times.

Player Contracts

Three new signings have joined FC Basel: Jan Piskorek (formerly Servette and Zürich), Patrick Baer (AAR Würenhausen), and Michael Gehr.

Six other agreements were extended, including goalkeeper Stefan Frick, who has been in Genf since 2014. Defender Christoph Steiner, midfielder Thomas Huber, and forward Benjamin Aderlin also received contract extensions.

Hope for Raoul Petretta's Return

A particularly noteworthy highlight is the discussion around potential veteran midfielder Raoul Petretta’s return. Stocker has expressed hope: “We will continue to look closely in the coming months whether a way can be found.”

The 32-year-old, who reached his career pinnacle with Servette and Zürich, could return to his former club where he began his professional career.

Criticism of Early Signings

While early deals have gone well, Stocker cautions that all is not yet perfect: “We are more or less done with the signings, but that certainly does not mean that the core squad is complete.”

FC Basel therefore still has work to do in further planning and finalizing preparations for the new season to build an optimal team.
