FC Basel has appointed Andreas Böni as the new Managing Director of FCB Holding AG and Chief Communications Officer. The 44-year-old Böni joins from Swiss sports broadcaster 'Blue Sport' and will start his new role no later than April 2027.

The owners David Degen, Ursula Rey and Andreas Rey created the new dual role to strengthen strategic communication. Böni, as a member of the executive management, is tasked with connecting the owners, leadership, and the club more closely, developing communication and content strategy across all channels.

“I am very much looking forward to the new task and the trust of the owners,” said Böni. “My aim is to bring FC Basel communicatively even closer to the people.”

The owners emphasised that Böni knows Swiss football, the media, and the mechanisms of public communication. He brings journalistic and content-strategic experience, leadership strength, and a large network. Böni spent four years as sports chief at 'Blue Sport' and previously worked for 'Blick' and 'Sportbild'. He will immediately recuse himself from Super League-related topics at his current employer.

The move comes as FC Basel sits fourth in the Super League table. After nine matchdays, the team has 13 points from four wins, one draw, and four defeats. Recent form shows room for improvement with one win, one draw, and three losses in the last five outings. The detailed standings show the tight competition in the upper third of the table. The next fixture is away to 11th-placed FC Vaduz on October 11th. All upcoming matches are listed in our fixtures section.

By hiring Böni, the club is responding to increased public scrutiny. The new structure aims to help deliver the club's messages more clearly as the team battles for a top position on the pitch. The performance data of the current squad will play a central role in this.

Andreas Böni will begin his work in Basel once the formal steps are completed. His official start date is April 1, 2027.
