Basel expects a hot match against Lausanne-Sport
FC Basel hosts Lausanne-Sport on Saturday in the Joggeli. Coach Stephan Lichtsteiner expects a tough match. "Lausanne-Sport has a similar playing style to Servette, but they are possibly a bit more physical," Lichtsteiner said on Friday. "They have many big players in this team. We will have to be careful in terms of counter-attacks due to the speed of our opponents."
Lausanne as a test for the rest of the season?
Lichtsteiner hopes for "an enlightening game for us," in terms of the opponent's type. Because just like Lausanne, many other teams will appear in the Joggeli this season. "I expect some similar games like this," Lichtsteiner said.
FC Basel expects a heat battle
In Basel, there will also be a heat battle on Saturday beyond the 30-degree mark. "We have not changed our training times due to the heat," Lichtsteiner revealed. "Because in the games, you have to deal with this too." At such temperatures, one must also adjust one's approach, the coach said. "It is more important to adapt one's own game, not to lose the ball unnecessarily," Lichtsteiner said. "So that one does not have to chase after it unnecessarily.."
League standing: 5th in Super League
FC Basel starts the new season with a 1:0 away win against Servette. On August 1, the home opener awaits the Bebbi in the Joggeli. The opponent in the first home game of the season is FC Lausanne-Sport. The Waadtländer had to settle for a 1:1 draw against GC at the start of the season.
