FC Basel closed its summer transfer window with the signing of Clément Michelin on September 8. Technical director Andreas Herrmann discussed the completed business, ongoing contract talks and the still-open head coach search in a club podcast.
Herrmann confirmed there had been offers for players in the low double-digit millions during the past period. Talks with Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabian Salvi over contract extensions continue. The 33-year-old Shaqiri was decisive recently with two goals and an assist in the 4-2 win at Luzern and is currently the team's top scorer with five goals this season.
Search for new head coach
Regarding the succession of head coach Timo Schultz, Herrmann said, "We are relatively far along, but there is nothing final to announce yet." The club thus remains in a transitional phase while the team sits fourth in the Super League with 13 points from eight games. Their recent form over the last five matches shows two wins, one draw and two defeats (WLLDW).
Ahead of the important home match against FC St. Gallen on September 20, a direct rival in fifth place, the sporting leadership therefore remains vacant for now. Fans can follow the upcoming schedule on our fixtures page and view the current standings.
